Description: The markings are mostly olive or pale green on a dark brown or tan background. A stripe along its back may also be evident. A membrane of skin is evident between the knee and the side of the body. Large jet black lump on undersurface of foot aids in burrowing.
Male size: 38-44 mm
Female size: 46-49 mm
Breeding: The male calls while floating in the water. Spawn is deposited in elongated strands that become tangled in submerged vegetation. The tadpole is grey with a metallic sheen.
Call: Call is a short slow pulsed musical trill.
SA Distribution: Eastern boundary of the state.
Habitat: Spends much of its time burrowed underground in open grassy woodland or shrubland.
